This is very hurting for the dog owner to see his/her dog throwing up blood. Generally these symptoms of blood throwing are related with the condition known as hematemesis. Hematemesis may be due to many reasons and this is a very serious condition of the dogs and must not be ignored by the pet owner. The dogs showing these symptoms need the quick diagnosis of the real cause of it and cured under experience veterinary doctor. The reason behind dog throwing up blood may be either simply due to dietary intolerance, parasite attack, tumors of intestine, lungs filled up with the blood, disorders related to blood clotting, inflammatory bowel disease, gastritis, peritonitis or intestinal obstruction, ulcers present in the stomach region or oesophagus or duodenum. Sometime this condition arises due to reaction of some particular medicine the dog may be allergic to. There is another condition of dog throwing blood because of considerable dip in the blood platelet count, termed as thrombocytopenia. Dogs taking splintered bones in their food may also be one reason of the blood vomiting. One should also look for the nose and gums of the pet for possible injuries.

For detecting the actual cause blood vomiting, the veterinary doctor may suggest several tests like x-ray examination, ultrasound, and endoscopy of the stomach for possible tumor, blood testing for platelet counts or any other similar condition leading to hematemesis. The vet may also record the other related health conditions like any symptoms of bloating, belching, lethargic condition, diarrhea, nausea or there is pain in the abdominal portion, and low appetite symptoms. 

After the right detection of the actual cause of the dog throwing up blood condition, there comes the right treatment of the disease. Many times the hematmesis is associated with dehydration causing loss of water from the dog's body. Therefore, first of all there is need for injecting intravenous fluids in the body of the dog. In case of diet problem, the particular harmful diet must be avoided. In case of ulcer in the stomach or intestine or oesophagus or duodenum etc, besides the specific medicines, there is very much need of extra precautions like no spicy food should be given to dog. For the cure of ulcers, there are the groups of medicines known as prostaglandin medicines. There are other medicines if problem is found in lung. Along with the routine medicines, some antibiotics are also required to protect from infections.
