Dog Stomach Problems

If your dog is behaving in an unusual way than his routine, he might have some problem. A common reason could be dog stomach problems. Most of the people consult their vet if their dog is having some eating problems. There are some common problems like bacterial growth or intestinal worms behind their unusual behavior. Some times there could be a stomach cancer or bloat that can cause some digestive issues to your dog. As your dog cant tell you what is wrong with him so you should watch your dog's eating habits closely and observe what is unusual to address the problem. Dog stomach problems usually have such symptoms like diarrhea, vomiting or unwillingness to eat.

Dog Stomach Problems

If there is some food inside that doesn't agree with the dog's system he starts vomiting. Some foreign object like a toy, sock or a rock can make his stomach feel worse and he starts throwing up. By instinct dogs know that eating grass results in throwing up. They eat grass to settle their stomach that is upset due to any reason. There could be a stomach ache if your dog doesn't show any willingness to eat. If he misses more than two meals you should take it seriously. Unusual sleeps and lethargy are also alarming if your dog is usually active. Bad breathing is also a symptom of dog stomach problems. The problem could be severe or mild depending upon the symptoms. Bad breathing indicates an internal disease that upsets his stomach. If your dog groans on picking him up and you feel his midsection tender to touch, he might have some stomach problem. Bacterial overgrowth in intestine of the dog can lead to the dog diarrhea. Diarrhea does not directly relate to the dog stomach but it relates to the intestine.

To treat your dog stomach problems monitor the dog's condition and eating habits closely. If there is blood present in the discharge in case of vomiting or in feces you need to take it seriously. Take a fresh stool sample and get you dog to the vet to be examined. Allow the dog to drink water for a period of twelve hours. The water should have rehyderation salts so as to avoid the chances of dehydration in the dog. Divide the dog's meal in small chunks and feed him frequently. Feed bland diet that is a mixture of rice with cheese or meat. When the dog recovers you can feed him the regular diet he takes. The vet if suggest some medicine for the dog must ask for the dosage too. The dosage varies because of difference in size and weight of every dog. Avoid giving your dog the human foodstuffs. It can affect the dog's health seriously. Help your dog in healthy living.
